Paul Di’Anno, Former Iron Maiden Singer, Dies at 66

Paul Di’Anno, the former lead vocalist of Iron Maiden, has passed away at the age of 66, as announced by his family. Known for his contributions to the band from 1978 to 1981, Di’Anno recorded the groundbreaking albums Iron Maiden (1980) and K1llers (1981) before being replaced by Bruce Dickinson.

Di’Anno, born Paul Andrews on May 17, 1958, in Chingford, East London, went on to have a long career in music after leaving Iron Maiden, performing with bands such as Battlezone and K1llers and recording several solo albums. Despite major health concerns that forced him to use a wheelchair in recent years, he has continued to play, completing over 100 shows since 2023.

A statement from Conquest Music confirmed his death at his home in Salisbury, Wiltshire. The label expressed pride in having him as part of their artist family and encouraged fans to raise a glass in his memory. Di’Anno’s recent retrospective album, The Book of the Beast, was released in September 2024.

Di’Anno’s departure from Iron Maiden was highlighted by open discussions about his cocaine addiction. He leaves behind six children and has been married five times. His death comes shortly after Iron Maiden announced a 50th anniversary tour that will begin on May 27, 2024, in Budapest, Hungary.
