Down Under is the first international spin-off of one of the pillars of American cr1me drama.

Australia’s Network 10 and paid-streaming service Paramount+ have announced a joint release date for NCIS: Sydney in 2023.

The original NCIS is one of the longest-running TV shows in the United States and is still one of the most popular.

It has three subsidiaries in Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Hawaii.

The Sydney series will be produced by Australian-born Shane Brennan, the creator of NCIS: Los Angeles.

According to Paramount+, the show will include local stories as well as Australian actors and producers.

“We are delighted to welcome the first international series of NCIS to Australian shores,” said Beverley McGarvey, president of ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand.

“It’s an honor to be able to carry on the legacy of such a fantastic show and incorporate the superior NCIS storytelling while introducing new Australian characters and locations.”

“We can’t wait to start production.”

NCIS: Sydney production is set to begin later this year.

Their announcement of the locally produced TV series is a boost for Australia’s entertainment industry, following the demise of long-running soap Neighbours by its UK broadcaster.

Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, which has been the most generous financial supporter of Neighbours in recent years, has decided not to renew the show after the upcoming British summer.

Following that announcement, FremantleMedia informed cast and crew via email that the show would be on hiatus.

Neighbour’s ongoing success has been bolstered by its popularity in the United Kingdom, where it is watched by approximately 1.5 million viewers per day.

However, in recent years, the Australian audience has shrunk.

Last night’s episode of Neighbours, which airs on free-to-air channel 10 Peach at 6:30 p.m., drew 106,000 viewers from the top five metro cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth).

A repeat of NCIS on 10 Bold, another Network 10 channel, drew 109,000 viewers.
