NCIS SEASON 18 is expected to be going ahead following the huge success of the show. But will there be a Tony and Ziva reunion?
NCIS fans were delighted by the return of Ziva David (played by Cote de Pablo) for four episodes during season 17. However, some were left disappointed not to see her reunite with Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) on the series. Now the creators have teased this could happen in the future – here’s what you need to know.
Will there be a Ziva and Tony reunion in NCIS season 18?
Ziva returned for a dramatic storyline in season 17 when she came to warn Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and the team about a terrorist threat.
Her shocking return from the dead was a huge for the characters, as well as for her former flame and NCIS member Tony, who did not know she was alive.
Fans were hopeful to see the pair reunite on screens during the series, but the storyline was wrapped up another way.
As viewers will remember, after she eliminated Mira Sahar Azam (Louise Barnes) and her associates, Ziva returned home to Paris.
Here she reunited with Tony and their daughter Tali in the episode In the Wind.
Although, this actually happened off-screen, rather than viewers seeing the meeting.
However, there seems to be some hope yet as the creators have now given a huge hint this could actually happen after all.
Speaking to Carter Matt, executive producers Frank Cardea and Gina Lucita Monreal gave some insight into the character.
On Ziva’s return to NCIS, Monreal said: “It was such a joy to have Cote back.
“For me, I’m a fan of the show too, and there were a lot of unanswered questions with the Ziva departure.
“It was really fulfilling to be able to answer some of those questions and see her interact with our new team member and give a little bit more closure to the story.”
While she mentioned the closure Ziva’s storyline brought, Cardea was keen to add this might not be the end for her on the show.
He added: “It was a great experience, and I think it was a great experience for Cote too.
“I would love to see that explored more in the future, and find out where she and Tony are.”
Adding to this, Monreal said: “There’s always more story to tell.”
This seemed to imply there could be a Ziva and Tony reunion in the works for the next season of NCIS.
What’s more, it certainly seems there could be much more to this story than meets the eye.
This is after actor Michael Weatherly also warned fans not to necessarily trust his on-screen father who broke the news of the reunion.
He tweeted on February 20: “Hi. The thing to remember about DiNozzo Sr is that he is extremely gullible.
“Most Con-Men are. You didn’t see a family reunion happen (or a long ago death happen!)… so maybe it didn’t happen?”
Viewers will be hoping to get some answers when season 18 eventually returns.
