Eric Christian Olsen, who stars on NCIS: Los Angeles, recently irritated his fans on Instagram with his witty hashtag game.
Olsen used the hashtag #finalseason in a post on December 31 to promote his return to work. Of course, we have to mention that Olsen used 15 hashtags. He also added a question mark to the hashtag. Was he just joking? After all, he also used the hashtags #jk (joking) and #youneverknow. And, just to make every NCIS: Los Angeles fan nervous, he also tagged three shows that are no longer on the air, including NCIS: New Orleans. Ouch.
So, will there be a 14th season of NCIS: Los Angeles? Olsen’s show has only aired twice since he posted his comments on Instagram on New Year’s Eve. It is not necessary to have a graduate degree to read these tea leaves.
This weekend, CarterMatt.com speculated that CBS will likely announce a renewal — or cancellation — in March or April. If the show ends after season 13, there will be enough time to say farewell to Deeks, Kensi, Callen, Sam, Fatima, Rountree, and Kilbride.
The ratings for NCIS: Los Angeles have remained stable. It spends half of each season competing with formidable programming. After all, the show competes directly with NBC’s Sunday Night Football, which typically attracts the largest audience of any programming each week. Do you want to know how amazing Sunday Night Football is? It has been the number one show in primetime for 11 years in a row. SNF football averaged 18.5 million viewers per game this fall. It’s difficult to deflate that kind of juggernaut if you’re NCIS: Los Angeles.
Last month, CBS gave a hint about NCIS: Los Angeles. The network appears to prefer NCIS: Hawai’i, the new NCIS darling. The network had planned to air a double feature of NCIS: Los Angeles on January 23. CBS, however, abandoned those plans after learning that it would be hosting the late AFC divisional playoff game between Buffalo and Kansas City. With only one hour of primetime available after the game, CBS chose NCIS: Hawai’i. With football as a lead-in, the rookie show drew nearly 10 million viewers. The second half of the episode aired on Monday, following NCIS.
NCIS: Los Angeles returns on February 27 with the episode “Under the Influence.” The following Sunday, March 6, will see the release of “Where Loyalties Lie.” These were the episodes that were originally scheduled for January 23rd.
