On the popular CBS procedural “Blue Bloods,” New York City assistant district attorney Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) is the only woman among her direct family members who all work in law enforcement.
Fortunately, despite her masculine nickname, she has Jamie’s wife Edit “Eddie” Janko (Vanessa Ray) to bring a bit more feminine energy to the “Blue Bloods” family dinner table – especially after the show cruelly and unexpectedly k1lled off Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) wife Linda (Amy Carlson) in Season 8.
Ray made his debut as Eddie in the Season 4 premiere, “Unwritten Rules,” in 2013. Eddie, a cop, is assigned to be Jamie Reagan’s (Will Estes) new partner, and sparks fly.
They eventually marry in the Season 9 finale, “Something Blue,” and while officer relationships aren’t exactly encouraged (though they’re also not exactly forbidden), Jamie and Eddie find a way to balance their personal and professional lives; for one thing, Jamie’s promotion allows them to continue working at the same precinct.
Eddie isn’t just sitting around, though, as she was recently seen practicing for her sergeant exam. Ray, in fact, praises the show’s writers for giving the female characters a lot to do.
Vanessa Ray Appreciates The Opportunity To Demonstrate Eddie’s Instincts.
Vanessa Ray admires how Blue Bloods portrays real issues faced by women, highlighting the writers’ commitment to addressing both physical and mental challenges. “Violence doesn’t care who you are,” she told Nerds of Color, referencing a Season 11 episode featuring Abigail Baker (Abigail Hawk). Ray believes her character, Eddie, showcases the “gut instinct” women have, noting, “She moves through her fear rather than away from it,” and encourages viewers to “#BeAnEddie.”
Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin Reagan, shares similar sentiments. In Glamour, she praised the complex storylines that have kept her engaged, adding she never needed a love story to make Erin compelling. “Her strength as a divorced single parent is relatable and powerful,” Moynahan said, calling forced romances unnecessary.
