How Tom Selleck Brought His ‘Blue Bloods’ Co-Stars to Tears on the Final Day of Season 14 Filming

“Blue Bloods” star Donnie Wahlberg opened up about the emotional final day of filming the hit procedural’s 14th season.

“It was really emotional,” Wahlberg, 55, told The Post while promoting his ID show Very Scary People. “When we finished the final take of the last dinner scene, everyone just sat there in silence. Secretly, we hoped someone would walk in and say, ‘It’s a joke, there will be 14 more seasons!’”

Co-star Tom Selleck broke the stillness, sending the entire ensemble to tears. “He read a poem, ‘The Man in the Arena,’ by Theodore Roosevelt,” Wahlberg said. “It was customary for him to do that now and then. Sitting next to him, I realized how much time had passed since I first watched him on Magnum P.I. as a child.”

Premiering in 2010, Blue Bloods followed the Reagan family, led by Selleck’s NYPD Commissioner Frank. The cast included Wahlberg as detective Danny, Bridget Moynahan as ADA Erin, and others. CBS announced last year that the series would end this fall, with its finale airing Dec. 13 at 10 p.m.

Wahlberg reminisced on the friendships developed over time, stating, “We saw each other through so many life events.” He was saddened by the show’s termination, but proud of its influence. “We were part of something that meant a lot to a lot of people.”

As a tribute, Wahlberg plans to place the iconic Reagan family dinner table in a Wahlburgers restaurant, using it for charity events like “Blue Bloods Fridays” to support causes like the Widows and Children’s Fund.

Although CBS has yet to confirm a Blue Bloods spinoff, Wahlberg is open to the notion. “New York was a character in the show, and any spinoff would have to reflect that. But I really enjoy the program and my character, so I would say yes.”
