Tom Selleck admitted to being ‘Too Shy’ to ask out his wife Jillie Mack, saying: ‘I was Hemming and Hawing’

Tom Selleck admitted in a resurfaced interview that he was nervous when he first met his current wife, Jillie Mack, and that she was the one to make the first move.

Tom Selleck, 77, of Three Men and a Baby, revealed that he was shy when he first met his wife Jillie Mack, 64. The Friends star admitted that it was Jillie who eventually persuaded him to ask him out.

Tom met his second wife Jillie backstage at a Cats performance, where she played Rumpleteazer. Jillie decided to make the first move by asking him for a drink, which changed his life.

“She had no choice but to go on [stage].” “I was hemming and hawing,” Tom said last year in an interview. “And she finally asked, ‘Do you want to meet for a cocktail?'”

After his divorce from first wife Jacqueline Ray in 1982, the actor admitted to being “a little shy” around women and “not much of a ladies man.”

Nonetheless, he hit it off with Jillie, and the couple married in 1987.

The couple lives on a 65-acre ranch in Hidden Valley, California, where they raise horses and grow avocados.

Tom bought the property after finishing the final season of Magnum, P.I. in 1988, which was a watershed moment in his career.

During the interview, Jillie explained that he knew he needed to reclaim his anonymity in order to replenish his soul.

Tom, who had Hannah with his wife the same year, stated that he “quit Magnum to have a family.”

It took a long time to get off the train, but he explained, “I try very hard to have balance, and this ranch has helped me do that.”

The couple chose to raise their daughter, now in her early thirties, away from the spotlight.

Hannah is now an equestrian jumping champion and is reportedly pursuing an MBA.

Tom has also described himself as “pretty romantic” with regard to his wife.

He told Closer Weekly about their life on the ranch, “I get up before Jillie and put on the teakettle, so when she gets up, her tea water is hot.”

Tom was previously married to Jacqueline between 1971 and 1982.

They met when he was an unknown actor and she was a model, and they had a son named Kevin when he was in his thirties.

Tom has played a number of iconic roles, including private investigator Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I., for which he received five Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and won in 1985.

Since 2010, he has also co-starred in Blue Bloods as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan.

Among his other memorable roles are Dr. Richard Burke in Friends and bachelor architect Peter Mitchell in Three Men and a Baby from 1987.
