The Showrunner of ‘Blue Bloods’ Is Concerned About the Future of Jamie and Eddie’s Relationship

“Blue Bloods” has been on the air since 2010, and it has found new methods to keep the Reagan family’s story compelling.

One of the most recent storylines concerns Erin (Bridget Moynahan) running for District Attorney, which would entail her taking on more responsibilities, which could play a role in future seasons. However, the show has not only advanced the protagonists’ jobs, but also their personal lives.

This is particularly evident in the budding romance between Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray).

The two began as police partners, but they couldn’t conceal their affections for one another over time. It didn’t take long for the two to become engaged and later married. They couldn’t possibly be partners on the force, but they both work for the NYPD.

The couple married in the Season 9 finale, “Something Blue,” and the show is now in its 13th season. It’s natural for viewers to ask when the two will have a child, but the showrunner says that won’t happen anytime soon.

Eddie Would Be Sidelined If She Had A Child.

Jamie and Eddie have been married for a few years, so it’s not unreasonable to expect them to want children at some time.

After all, Jamie’s siblings both have children, and coming from a large Irish-Catholic family, it’s natural for him to want some of his own. However, “Blue Bloods” creator Kevin Wade spoke with PopCulture.com about their relationship and why having a child is unlikely.

In the course of the conversation, Wade said, “In a practical application, once you make a police officer pregnant, she’s bound by the rules to have a desk job after a certain point … the actual manifestation would handicap our storytelling with Vanessa and Will.” It’s natural that the show would want to avoid shoving Eddie to the side for the sake of having a baby down the line, as seeing both Jamie and Eddie out in the field can be some of the most energizing moments in any “Blue Bloods” episode.

That doesn’t rule it out as a possibility. The show might potentially go on for a long time, and the writers may soon decide that it’s time for Jamie and Eddie to have a baby in order to spice things up. There’s still the question of Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria (Marisa Ramirez) getting together, so the writers may have other priorities.
