The Reagans Are Returning! Season 14 of Blue Bloods has an official premiere date

Since the end of Hollywood’s major strikes, fans have been waiting for the return of Blue Bloods for Season 14. Keep an eye out for updates on when new episodes starring Tom Selleck and the Reagan family will premiere.

Blue Bloods, a CBS police procedural, recounts the Reagan family’s legacy in law enforcement. The show premiered in September 2010 and will complete its 13th season in May 2023. Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes, Bridget Moynahan, Abigail Hawk, Vanessa Ray, and other actors star.

Blue Bloods was initially left off CBS’s renewal list for the 2023-2024 season, raising fears among fans that Season 13 may be its final. However, CBS renewed the long-running police drama for a 14th season in March 2023.

Deadline claimed that the cast and producers agreed wage cuts in order to secure the new season in March 2023.

This decision was made to assure the show’s continuation and to keep hundreds of crew and support members employed.

Blue Bloods has been CBS’s top-rated primetime show since 2010, and it is the No. 3 broadcast drama with 9.54 million people.

The actors’ and writers’ guilds, notably the Hollywood actors’ union SAG-AFTRA, went on strike in the summer of 2023. The strike was approved by SAG-AFTRA’s national board on July 13, 2023.

The strike, which has 160,000 members representing television and movie performers, prevents actors from doing union jobs, promoting their films, attending press junkets, premieres, and other events.

The actors’ strike came after the WGA’s strike, which began on May 2, 2023. Both groups have similar requests, including more compensation for TV series and movies, increased residual payments for streaming services, and artificial intelligence rules.

Now that both strikes have ended, when will Blue Bloods return to CBS for Season 14? Here’s what we know so far.

When will Season 14 of Blue Bloods premiere?

Season 14 of Blue Bloods premieres on Friday, February 16, at 10 p.m. ET/PT and 9 p.m. CT. The news was made in November 2023, shortly after the SAG-AFTRA strike ended. Season 2 of Fire Country and the final season of S.W.A.T. are also planned to premiere on the same day.

Blue Bloods Season 14 was supposed to premiere in early October 2023, however it was pushed back owing to SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. According to a network representative, to bridge the gap, CBS will play select episodes from Season 1 to Season 13 in fall 2023, containing memorable character journeys, significant entrances, and spectacular guest stars.

On July 17, 2023, CBS previewed Blue Bloods’ fall reruns with an Instagram post. The Price is Right at Night, Let’s Make a Deal, and Raid the Cage were also shown, followed by “classic episodes” of Blue Bloods.

When the next season of Blue Bloods returns to CBS, it may seem a little different from previous seasons. Seasons, for example, could contain fewer episodes due to shorter production durations. According to Movie Web, when the WGA went on strike from November 2007 to February 2008, shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, Scrubs, and Friday Night Lights all saw episode cuts.

During the Hollywood strikes, members of both guilds who work on Blue Bloods were told to stop working and go to the picket lines to support the cause. Abigail Hawk, who portrays Detective Abigail Baker on Blue Bloods, re-shared this Instagram Reel of actress Marlee Matlin’s statement at the SAG-AFTRA picket line in Chicago.
