Since its debut on television in 2003, NCIS has developed a cult following, with its leading men and women becoming household names.
Many actors have come and gone over the last nearly two decades, including Mark Harmon and Michael Weatherly, but there will always be those special few who resonate with fans long after their departure, and some are even still on the show!
While viewers have become acquainted with the celebrity behind their on-screen alter ego, many may be surprised to learn that they are not the only recognizable face in their family – learn all about the famous families of the NCIS stars below…
Mark Harmon
Mark Harmon played Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs for eighteen years before leaving the show in 2021. He is married to actress Pam Dawber, who has appeared in a number of television shows and films over the years, including My Sister Sam, Life… and stuff, and Stay Tuned.
She is perhaps best known for her role in the popular 1970s sitcom Mork & Mindy, in which she co-starred with the late Robin Williams.
Pam recently appeared alongside her husband in an episode of NCIS.
She played investigative journalist Marcie Warren, who contacts Gibbs after learning about the events that led to his suspension in the previous episode.
Pam Dawber, Mark’s actress wife
Mark comes from a prominent family. Tom Harmon and Elyse Knox were his parents. Tom was a professional football player known as ‘Old 98’ at times. Mark’s father worked as an actor, broadcaster, and sportscaster.
Elyse, Mark’s mother, was a well-known actress, model, and fashion designer. During her peak years in the 1940s and 1950s, she appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including The Bing Crosby Show. During the war, she worked as a ‘pin-up girl.’
Sean Murray
For nearly two decades, Sean Murray has delighted fans as beloved special agent Timothy McGee.
Sean and his mother moved to Los Angeles after his parents divorced when he was 15, where she later married American television producer and screenwriter Donald P. Bellisario, who is best known for creating several hit shows such as Magnum PI, Quantum Leap, JAG, and NCIS.
Troian Bellisario, Sean’s famous step-sister
Sean has seven stepsiblings from his mother’s second marriage, including JAG actor Michael Bellisario and Troian Bellisario, best known for playing Spencer Hastings in the teen drama Pretty Little Liars.
Troian previously appeared in the NCIS universe as McGee’s sister, and last year Sean’s daughter joined her father on the show, making it a true family affair!
David McCallum
David McCallum is best known for his role as NCIS medical examiner Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard, but he also comes from a large family.
David McCallum Sr., his father, was an accomplished violinist who served as the Scottish leader of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Scottish National Orchestra, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also an actor, appearing in movies such as The Magic Bow, Last Holiday, and Prelude to Fame.
David and Jill Ireland, his first wife
Jill Ireland, who starred in Hell Drivers, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Love and Bullets, and Carry on Nurse, was David’s first wife.
Val McCallum, his son, is a singer-songwriter who has collaborated with Sheryl Crow, Lucinda Williams, The Wallflowers, Bonnie Raitt, and the late Loretta Lynn. Katherine Carpenter, David’s current wife, was a successful model in the 1960s, appearing in campaigns for Good Housekeeping and Glamour.
Michael Weatherly
Michael Weatherly played Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo for 16 years before retiring in 2016 – but he’s not the only member of his family to have appeared on a major television show.
Alexandra Breckenridge, Michael’s niece and goddaughter, has also made a name for herself in the world of acting and has become a huge Netflix star thanks to her role as Mel Monroe Virgin River.

Alexandra, Michael’s half-daughter, sister’s has previously appeared in The Walking Dead as Jessie Anderson and This Is Us as Sophie. Her breakthrough roles came in the early 2000s, just as Michael began his stint on NCIS, when she landed roles in popular teen films such as Big Fat Liar and She’s The Man.
Alexandra made a rare remark back in 2008 about Michael mentoring her during her early acting days. Connecticut Magazine quoted her as saying: “He can commiserate with me about whatever problems I’m having, and he has a lot of really good advice. It’s wonderful to have a close family member who is also my godfather.”
Sasha Alexander
Sasha Alexander was a beloved member of the NCIS team for two years before her character, Caitlin ‘Kate’ Todd, d1ed in the season two finale. Sasha met her now-husband Eduardo Ponti, whose mother is one of the world’s most iconic movie stars, Sophia Loren, only a few months after her exit.
The Italian actress is a two-time Oscar winner, and for her role in Two Women in 1962, she became the first actress to win an Academy Award for a non-English-speaking performance. She has also received five Golden Globes, a Grammy, and a BAFTA.
Sophia was named one of the American Film Institute’s 25 American female screen legends of all time in 1999.
Sophia Loren, Sasha’s iconic mother-in-law
Sasha admitted to Parade magazine in 2013 that she was nervous when she first met her famous mother-in-law, but she quickly relaxed, saying: “She gave me a big hug, and I could see the woman underneath. She is breathtaking in every way.”
Sasha praised Sophia for being “normal” despite her celebrity status in a 2010 interview. “The best thing about [her] is that she is the most normal person, and I adore and admire her,” she told Collider.
“I know she’s an icon and a legend, but as a family member, the most beautiful thing about her is that she’s really, really normal.”
