Rumors persist that CBS will soon announce a brand new NCIS spinoff titled NCIS: Hawaii.
A direct-to-series order is expected soon, and the studio is currently working on staffing the pilot, according to sources.
‘NCIS: Hawaii,’ according to one franchise star, is a ‘exciting opportunity.’
Despite the fact that NCIS: Hawaii has yet to be confirmed, one NCIS: Los Angeles star has spoken out about the new spinoff. Eric Christian Olsen, who plays Special Agent Marty Deeks, told Entertainment Tonight that the concept is definitely something fans will want to see.
“Listen, Hawaii is Hawaii,” Olsen said. “And if there’s anything we want to watch on TV, it’s people in paradise chasing bad guys.” I believe it is an excellent opportunity for franchise expansion.”
The new spinoff rumors surfaced shortly after CBS announced the cancellation of NCIS: New Orleans after seven seasons. According to sources, there will be a link between the old and new spinoffs. It will take place behind the scenes.
One spinoff is being exchanged for another by the executive producers.
NCIS: Hawaii will receive two executive producers from NCIS: New Orleans, according to Express. Now that their show is coming to an end, showrunner Christopher Silber and EP Jan Nash are reportedly taking over the new spinoff. They will collaborate with SEAL Team writer Matt Bosack.
According to sources, the studio is currently looking for a pilot director. They are also said to be filling positions in the writers room.
There is no casting news because CBS has not yet officially ordered the new series. On Twitter, some fans speculated that Scott Bakula’s character, Special Agent In Charge Dwayne “King” Cassius Pride, could relocate from New Orleans to Hawaii and join the cast.
Others speculated that Maria Bello, who is leaving NCIS after three seasons, would visit the Hawaiian Islands. Another possibility is that NCIS: Hawaii will reintroduce some characters from Hawaii Five-0, which is set in the NCIS universe.
CBS is reportedly planning to use the Hawaii production base that they established for Hawaii Five-0. Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, and Grace Park are all possible cast members. NCIS: Hawaii could also have a completely new cast with new characters for fans to meet.

There was a crossover episode between Hawaii Five-0 and Los Angeles in 2012. Olsen did appear in that episode as the LAPD liaison officer. With rumors swirling about his possible departure from Los Angeles, some speculate that Deeks could appear in the new series.
The franchise has a history of using backdoor pilots. Back in 2003, the flagship series itself was a backdoor pilot through JAG. It is unclear how CBS will introduce the new spinoff.
However, given that NCIS is watched by 15 million Americans each week – as well as viewers in 200 countries – it would make sense for the Hawaii team to make their first appearance in the NCIS universe via the main series.
However, CBS has no plans to introduce Hawaii as a “planted spinoff from one of the other NCIS series,” according to Deadline. Fans will have to wait and see what happens.
