Fans of NCIS: Hawai’i may have to wait for new episodes.
And the wait may be longer than the typical summer break.
CBS has ordered a new season of the hit show, with episodes scheduled to air on Monday nights from 2023 to 2024.
The spin-off benefited greatly from having NCIS as a lead-in, as did the three-show crossover.
In other news, LL Cool J has joined the cast of NCIS: Hawai’i.
In the NCIS Universe, Agent Sam Hanna (played by LL Cool J) lives on.
Why could NCIS: Hawai’i be pushed back?
The Writers Guild of America is on strike right now. The WGA is a group of writers who contribute to the majority of scripted television shows.
Almost every scripted show was halted during the Writers Strike. It means that production on NCIS, One Chicago, The Conners, and many other shows has come to a halt.
Because of the Writers Strike, episodes cannot be filmed, and networks will have fewer shows to air in the fall.
ABC has announced a full slate of fall reality shows, game shows, and news programs.
Other networks will almost certainly have to make similar programming decisions.
When there was a previous Writers Strike, many new unscripted shows debuted on television. This could happen again this year.
What will CBS do with its primetime programming?
CBS has already decided to extend episodes of Survivor and The Amazing Race in the fall. On Wednesday nights, those reality competition shows will last 90 minutes each.
CBS must make decisions about Monday night programming because new episodes of NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i may not be available in the fall.
It’s possible that older NCIS episodes will be re-aired. Repeat episodes continue to receive favorable ratings.
The network has already postponed the season of Big Brother 25. This means that more episodes of the show will air in the fall, giving CBS more primetime programming.
There are also reports that Celebrity Big Brother will return this winter. CBB4 could serve as a stopgap measure until scripted programming returns in the spring.
While the Writers Strike continues, fans of the NCIS series can watch content via Paramount+. NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS: Los Angeles episodes from previous seasons are also available on the streaming service.
And if the strike ends soon, everyone will be able to return to work on new episodes for NCIS: Hawai’i Season 3.
