Ron Hale, ‘General Hospital’ Star, Passes Away at 78

Ron Hale, 78, died on August 27 in St. George, South Carolina. He was best known for his appearances on General Hospital and Ryan’s Hope. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

Hale, who portrayed Mike Corbin on General Hospital, was remembered fondly by the show. In a tribute posted on X (formerly Twitter), they wrote, “The entire General Hospital Family is saddened to hear of Ron Hale’s passing… He was an incredible actor and an unforgettable colleague. May he rest in peace.”

Hale’s co-star Billy Warlock also paid tribute, writing, “Ron was an incredible performer and an even greater friend. “I’ll miss you.”

Born on January 2, 1946, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Hale graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1967. His acting career began in 1968 with N.Y.P.D., and his first soap role came a year later in Search for Tomorrow.

From 1975 to 1989, he starred as Dr. Roger Coleridge on Ryan’s Hope, earning two Daytime Emmy nominations. Hale joined General Hospital in 1995, playing Sonny Corinthos’ father until 2010, and also appeared on its spinoff Port Charles.

Hale’s film credits included All the President’s Men and Trial by Jury. His last role was in the 2017 film The Ghost and the Whale.

Hale is survived by his nieces, Lori and Erin, and nephews, Max and Marc.
