The importance of family is important to Blue Bloods as a whole. Led by patriarch Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), who works as the NYPD’s Police Commissioner, he clearly influenced his offspring to pursue jobs in law enforcement as well.
Throughout the show’s 11 seasons, their story lines have all intertwined in exciting ways when they’re on the job, yet they all still make time to meet together every Sunday evening for supper as a family.
Those familial ties have paid off handsomely for the cast of the police procedural, as they’ve all been through their fair share of adversity and require people to lean on.
Frank and Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) are both widowers, while Erin (Bridget Moynahan) is divorced from her ex-husband and is raising her daughter Nicky (Sami Gayle) primarily on her own. Fortunately, having a large Irish-Catholic family, everyone is prepared to pitch in when needed.
With such substantial family-related themes, it only makes sense that it would also extend into the casting. Some Blue Bloods fans may be unaware that two of the main cast members are related in real life.
Sean and Jack, the actors who play Danny’s boys, are real-life siblings.
Danny and his wife had two children before she d1ed: Sean (Andrew Terraciano) and Jack (Tony Terraciano). Having the same last names isn’t a coincidence; they’re also brothers in real life.
They were cast in the first season of the show when they were 6 and 8 years old, respectively. Their characters were the same ages when they first appeared, and spectators have been able to witness them grow up over the last decade.
Changes come with aging, and supporters were understandably concerned when Tony Terraciano was not spotted in a family dinner photo before of the new season in 2018. According to CountryLiving, the actor has had to withdraw from almost every Blue Bloods episode since going to college.
His character on the show did the same thing, but he still makes time to visit his family in New York when he can.
Having spent the whole of their lives on a hit TV show hasn’t affected the lads all that much. Andrew Terraciano told CBS New York in 2016: “Me and my friends, we really all do the same thing except I’m out once a week and I just have to kind of catch up on homework.”
It appears that not all of the Terraciano children have caught the acting bug. Andrew has a twin sister named Molly, but she has yet to be sat at a Reagan family meal. Given that Blue Bloods might go on for quite some time, she should have plenty of time for a cameo if she so desires.
