NCIS Showrunner Discusses Challenges of Bringing Back McGee and Delilah’s Twins

Fans of NCIS have noticed that Tim McGee’s (Sean Murray) twins with his wife Delilah (Margo Harshman) have rarely appeared on screen, despite being an important part of the couple’s story. McGee and Delilah have shared a strong relationship, with Tim supporting Delilah after she was left in a wheelchair following a terr0rist bombing in Season 11. They married in Season 14, and Delilah’s pregnancy with twins was revealed the following season.

In Season 15’s “Ready or Not,” Delilah gave birth to twins John and Morgan during a frantic hospital scene in which McGee had to stop a suspect while remaining at his wife’s side. However, after their spectacular birth, the twins have primarily been referenced but seldom seen. McGee frequently discusses the difficulties of fatherhood, and a funny subplot has even addressed how other fathers at his children’s school don’t think he’s “cool.”

Despite frequent references to the twins, they remain absent from the screen, and fans have joked that they seem like “ghosts.” The reason behind their absence, according to showrunners, has more to do with production challenges than anything else.

Where Are McGee’s Kids? A Look into Their Absence on NCIS

Showrunner Steven D. Binder revealed that plans to depict McGee’s children on NCIS were repeatedly delayed, owing largely to the C0V1D 19 outbreak. The filming rules made it difficult to have young children on set. While the limits have subsequently been lifted, the twins will now be around seven years old, necessitating the use of fresh actors.

Binder mentioned that when they brought Jimmy Palmer’s daughter on in 2022, they had to age her, which raises the question of whether McGee’s kids will also be aged. With the show incorporating time jumps, it’s likely the twins are now in grammar school. There are plans for a Christmas episode, so fans might finally see the twins during a family gathering.
