The writers of ‘NCIS’ have been hard at work, with production set to begin this month, subject to the actors’ strike.
After the WGA strike ended, the NCIS writers were fast to return to work, and the show is now in the best position to resume production. The long-running CBS procedural is preparing for its 21st season, and some details have been disclosed.
The writers’ room has been “very productive” since the strike ended, according to TVLine. Depending on the outcome of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the drama is allegedly planning to begin filming in late November, perhaps before or after Thanksgiving. If this does occur. Season 21’s episode count is set at 13.
The desired number for post-strike series appears to be between 10 and 13, thus the likely order for NCIS makes sense.
Regardless matter how many episodes the drama receives, it will be the series’ smallest season to date. Season 18 began as the shortest season, with only 16 episodes owing to C0V1D.
While packing so much into only 13 episodes may be difficult, it is nothing the series cannot handle. The offshoot NCIS: Hawai’i is likewise planning 10-13 episodes, but the precise amount is unknown.
Following David McCallum’s passing, the upcoming season will be difficult to watch. Throughout all 21 seasons, the late actor played Chief M.E. Donald “Ducky” Mallard, and later, NCIS Historian. He was most recently seen in the final two episodes of Season 20.
It’s unclear what kind of homage the writers will produce, but it will undoubtedly be emotional. Although McCallum is no longer with us, his presence will undoubtedly be felt on NCIS long after the show has concluded.

The show will transport viewers to Australia, where US NCIS agents will collaborate with Australian Federal Police to build a taskforce to combat naval cr1mes in Sydney.
Even though NCIS may not return for a time, the franchise is still very much alive with its new spinoff. NCIS: Sydney returns to CBS on Tuesday, November 14 at 8 p.m. ET. The series will premiere on Paramount+ Australia on November 10th.
