In an emotional social media post, Eric Christian Olsen delivered a sincere message to his former NCIS: Los Angeles co-star.
The actor, well known for his role as Marty Deeks on the CBS police procedural drama, shared a still from a prior episode via a fan’s Instagram page, which was posted by Renée Felice Smith, who portrayed Nell Jones on the program.
The scene depicts Nell and Marty exchanging emotional words as Eric’s character remarks, “I’m gonna miss this.” And I think we did a fantastic job here,” Nell responds, “we did a great job.” Marty tells Nell, who is choking back tears, to “keep it up.” “Make proud,” Nell responds, “you made us proud, Deeks.” Everyday.”
Eric shared the photo on Instagram Stories, using the opportunity to thank his former co-star. “Miss this,” the star wrote in the caption. “I miss her.” Meanwhile, Renée captioned her photo with “Real tears,” followed by two love heart emojis.
NCIS: Los Angeles ended in May. Eric had been a member of the beloved cast since the show’s inception in 2009, and it had been on the air for 14 years when its final episode aired earlier this year. The drama concluded with a two-part finale special as well as a special program featuring interviews with the cast and crew commemorating the show’s successful run on CBS.
The cancellation was announced at the beginning of the year, and while CBS did not divulge the reasons for the cancellation, reports at the time indicated that it was due to budgetary constraints.
According to Deadline, “the cancellation of a long-running drama with big-name actors filming in Los Angeles should not come as a surprise considering the high cost involved, especially at a time when networks are attempting to decrease their spending.”
Meanwhile, CBS issued an official statement to notify the news. “From Day 1,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, “the cast, producers, and crew were amazing Network/Studios partners, and their teamwork, talent, and spirit came through vividly on the screen.”
She went on to say, “We are so grateful for the collaboration and remarkable run of these treasured members of our CBS family, and plan to give them the big sendoff they and their fans deserve.”
Since the end of the program, Eric has been hard at work on his new series, Matlock, which was revealed in May. The new legal drama is a reboot of the 1986 drama, and the network has ordered it to series for the 2023-2024 broadcast season.
A release date has not yet been set, however due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike action that began in the summer, the release could be postponed.
