If Jessica Knight accepts the role of REACT Chief Training Officer, Sam Hanna and Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant must travel together. Sam Hanna, a former member of NCIS: Los Angeles, would be an excellent addition to the Washington, D.C. office, but his rapport with Tennant from NCIS: Hawai’i makes them a perfect combo. Tennant’s participation would also give balance, ensuring that the squad is not entirely male-dominated. If Knight departs, this couple might simply merge into the flagship MCRT.
Why Sam Hanna Can’t Replace Jessica Knight Solo (And How Tennant Complements the Role)
It’s complicated for Sam Hanna to fill Jessica Knight’s role alone because the NCIS franchise has a 19-year legacy of strong female characters in this position. The role began with Caitlin “Kate” Todd (Sasha Alexander), who served from the first episode until her death at the end of season 2. She was succeeded by Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), who avenged Kate’s death and became a vital team member. After Ziva’s departure, Eleanor Bishop (Emily Wickersham) took over until Knight replaced her in season 19.
Although Hanna is very competent, bringing Jane Tennant on board would provide the required balance and consistency with a strong female lead. Tennant cannot take over the job because it would be a downgrade for her character, especially after the cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i. Thus, partnering Tennant with Hanna assures the team’s dynamic while honoring the tradition of female agents in this critical position.
