Mark Harmon, who portrayed Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS, stepped down from his iconic role during season 18, leaving fans heartbroken. Since its debut in 2003, NCIS has captivated audiences with its gripping storylines, and many are eagerly awaiting the season 21 premiere in February.
Harmon, who oversaw the team for 400 episodes, said goodbye to the series in the heartbreaking episode “Great Wide Open.” Throughout the series, viewers were given glimpses of Gibbs’ history through flashbacks, although his personal life was frequently kept hidden. Fans questioned why Gibbs usually wore a medical bracelet.
Speculation among fans pointed to possible in-show reasons, such as health scares, including a near-fatal gunshot and cardiac arrest. Others suggested it could signify a drug allergy. However, the bracelet actually had no connection to Gibbs’ character. Instead, it was a personal tribute by Harmon to his late father, Jackson Harmon, who passed away in 1990.
Although Gibbs has left NCIS, showrunner Steve Binder hinted at a possible return, saying, “Never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”
