NCIS fans are reacting strongly to a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming prequel NCIS: Origins, with many expressing frustration over CBS’s recent decisions. The prequel, set in the 1990s, will follow a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Austin Stowell) during his early years at the Naval Investigative Service, with a fresh cast including Mariel Molino and Kyle Schmid.
While some are delighted about the latest spin-off, many are still upset that NCIS: Hawaii was cancelled after only three seasons.
Fans flocked to Instagram to demand the cancellation of Origins and the return of Hawaii, with one commenter adding, “Stop canceling diverse shows in favor of rehashing old stories.” Others defended the new series, pushing viewers to accept the cancellation, stating, “It’s time to move on.”
Despite the controversy, nostalgia seems to be a driving force behind CBS’s decision, as fans are also eagerly awaiting the return of Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) in future episodes. Meanwhile, another NCIS spin-off set in Sydney is also in the works for Paramount+, proving there are still new stories to tell in the NCIS universe.
