Mark Harmon, former NCIS director, has told his wife Pam Dawber about his daring first move.
Actor Mark Harmon claimed that their first date and subsequent 37-year marriage began with a simple cold call to Pam Dawber.
The NCIS alum told PEOPLE that he skipped a planned group date and instead called Dawber, a Mork & Mindy star.
Their instant connection resulted in a date that night and a wedding one year later to the day.
Harmon, 72, told the story while presenting his next book, Ghosts of Honolulu, which will be released on November 14.
The couple’s romance began shortly after Harmon was crowned PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in 1986, when he declared a preference for long-term marriage over brief romances.
Harmon focuses on a common sense of work ethic and the significance of laughter and communication in his long-standing marriage with Dawber, now parents to two sons in their thirties, Sean, an actor, and Ty, a screenwriter.
Harmon’s decision to take on the role of Special Agent Gibbs on NCIS was influenced by his desire to have an active presence in his sons’ lives despite a demanding work schedule.
Harmon, who worked alongside Dawber on “NCIS,” shows tremendous gratitude for his family and career, emphasizing the importance of spending time with loved ones over everything else.
