NCIS actor Brian Dietzen Did Just Something Mark Harmon Has Never Done Before

Season 19 of NCIS has been pretty unusual and interesting. After more than 18 seasons and 400 episodes, Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs unexpectedly said farewell to his crew. The squad was then joined by Gary Cole’s Alden Parker, who took Harmon’s place.

Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer on the long-running procedural, is now taking on a completely new job behind the scenes. It’s also something Harmon never did.

Dietzen’s character isn’t quite an NCIS original, but he comes close. Jimmy Palmer originally featured as the assistant medical examiner to David McCallum’s Dr. Ducky Mallard in the season one episode “Split Decision.”

Initially, he was a recurring character who was characterized as a geek with a tendency to babble.

Tony DiNozzo referred to Palmer as the “autopsy gremlin” because he was always terrified by Gibbs (Michael Weatherly).

However, the figure eventually became Ducky’s surrogate son. When the chief medical examiner departed, Palmer stepped in to replace Ducky and became a series regular. Dietzen has been in 322 episodes of NCIS, and counting, over the years.

Jimmy Palmer was the subject of a moving season 18 episode.

Despite his numerous appearances on NCIS, Palmer is rarely the subject of an episode. But there was one episode in season 18 where his journey was the main focus, and it was really heartbreaking.

Fans had watched Jimmy as he met and married his wife Breena throughout the years (Michelle Pierce). After attempting to adopt a child, the couple welcomed a daughter called Victoria Elizabeth. However, Jimmy became a widower in the season 18 episode “The First Day” when Breena d1ed from C0V1D-19.

“I think that sadly in our country — and I should add around the world — that’s been the case for a lot of persons who have worked with C0V1D so closely,” Dietzen said of the experience.

“…In many respects, this episode turned out to be a tribute to those who lost loved ones during the pandemic. To be more precise, it’s about our frontline workers and folks who have helped us deal with this pandemic going through their own challenges while still showing up for the rest of us.”

For more than 18 seasons, Harmon was the star and executive producer of NCIS. But there was one thing he never did: compose an episode. Dietzen, on the other hand, is a different story. The actor has recently finished co-writing his first NCIS episode, and the cast and crew are preparing to film it.

“In a word… grateful,” Dietzen said in the caption of an Instagram image from November 25 that showed him holding his screenplay. “You guys, I got to write a script for @ncis cbs with my pal @mostxsw [writer/executive producer Scott Williams], and it’s been a fantastic trip thus far.”

The actor went on to say that filming for his episode would start following the Thanksgiving holiday. Dietzen also expressed his excitement about his new role behind the camera.

“We start filming this bad boy right after Thanksgiving, and I couldn’t be more delighted,” Dietzen wrote. “This is my first time writing for the show, and it’s been a fantastic learning experience.” I’ll keep you all updated as we go. I’m very excited to share this with you all. This week, I’m grateful!”

The episode’s title was kept a secret. Dietzen’s script, on the other hand, indicated that it would be episode number “1913.” This is the season 19’s 13th episode.

When will this ‘NCIS’ episode air?

Dietzen did not provide any storyline specifics regarding the episode, which he co-wrote, nor did he provide a release date. The forthcoming episode, which will premiere on December 6, is the season’s ninth. This implies Dietzen’s special episode will almost certainly premiere in early January.

Diona Reasonover, Dietzen’s co-star, has had the opportunity to read Dietzen’s NCIS script (Kasie Hines). Reasonover commented on Dietzen’s article on writing for the series, saying, “It’s a great script pal,” and adding a red heart emoji at the end.
