Mark Harmon, a former NCIS actor, has been married to actress Pam Dawber since 1987, and the couple has a close and private connection. Despite his inclination to remain out of the spotlight, Harmon has occasionally disclosed personal details about his life and marriage.
In an interview with People, Harmon credited their differences as a strength in their relationship. “We don’t generally like the same thing, and that’s been healthy for us,” he said, referencing a disagreement over his role as Freddy Shoop in Summer School in 1987.
While Harmon was eager to work with director Carl Reiner, Pam advised against taking the role. Ultimately, the project became a pivotal moment in his career.
Harmon also credits their success to maturity, as they married in their 30s. “Hopefully, the stupid stuff we did earlier,” was his quip.
The couple shares two sons, Sean and Ty, both of whom have followed their parents into the entertainment industry. Sean has appeared on NCIS as a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs in flashbacks, while Ty works as a screenwriter.
Fans were heartbroken when Harmon left his legendary role as Gibbs in NCIS season 19. Harmon reflected on his departure, saying he stayed on the program as long as he felt pushed by the material, but after nearly two decades, he thought it was time to move on.
Harmon’s legacy on NCIS and his commitment to family remain a testament to his enduring appeal both on and off screen.
