‘NCIS’: Mark Harmon Has Just Revealed Whether or Not Gibbs Will Return

The hit CBS drama NCIS returns, kicking off with a major crossover event. While the season starts with a bang, fans will notice the absence of one crucial character-Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon.

The premiere picks up after the explosive Season 19 finale, with McGee (Sean Murray), Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), Knight (Katarina Law), and Parker (Gary Cole) taking the lead. Parker is still on the run after fleeing from his ex-wife Vivian (Teri Polo) and needs help clearing his name. The team enlists the support of Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and Ernie Malick (Jason Antoon) from NCIS: Hawai’i.

Despite the season’s action-packed start, Mark Harmon’s absence is felt strongly. Harmon, who had been the show’s special agent in charge since 2003, left at the beginning of Season 19. However, there is talk that Gibbs may not be gone permanently. Harmon hinted at a potential return in a recent interview, saying, “This character has chosen the path that it has.” I’m not finished working.”

Executive producer and showrunner Steve Binder has also suggested that Gibbs’ story may not be over. Binder noted that Harmon remains an integral part of the show as an executive producer and that fans should “never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”

As the new season progresses, viewers can expect to see more character-focused episodes, workplace romances, and maybe updates on what Gibbs is up to now that he’s off the squad. The mystery surrounding Gibbs’ current location adds another element of excitement to the season, leaving fans hoping for his return.
