Fans have been eagerly waiting to learn what Mark Harmon plans to do after his departure from NCIS. NCIS follows the special agents of the Naval Criminal Investigation Service as they investigate cr1mes involving the Navy, Marine Corps, and their families.

After nearly 20 years, Harmon justified his departure: “What has always drawn me here is the character I play and keeping it fresh and challenging.” Fans are now wondering about his next endeavor and how it will reflect his long career as Agent Gibbs.

What will Mark Harmon do after NCIS?

Mark Harmon, known for his role as NCIS Supervisory Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs from Season 1 to Season 19, has announced his first project after leaving the show: a book titled Ghosts of Honolulu: A Japanese Spy, A Japanese American Spy Hunter, and the Untold Story of Pearl Harbor. Co-written with NCIS technical advisor Leon Carroll Jr., the book is set to be released on November 14, 2023. It explores the experiences of Japanese and American intelligence agents during World War II, drawing from Harmon and Carroll’s insights gained while working on NCIS.

The book focuses on the stories of Douglas Wada, the first Japanese American Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) agent, and Japanese spy Takeo Yoshikawa. It digs at the moral quandaries confronting Japanese American officers protecting their country and communities throughout the war. Harmon stated, “These are real stories from those who were there,” highlighting the book’s historical importance.

Carroll Jr. described their collaboration as “seamless” and reflected on the parallels between Wada’s experiences and his own training as a former NCIS special agent. Harmon expressed excitement about adding author to his resume, saying it felt “weird” but rewarding.

While Ghosts of Honolulu is Harmon’s latest project, he is also represented by The Gersh Agency, which hints at future endeavors in the industry. His most recent IMDb credit remains NCIS.

Amazon has a pre-order for Ghosts of Honolulu.
