NCIS Season 3 added two key female characters: Director Jenny Shepard (Lauren Holly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). While Ziva remained on the show until Season 11, Holly left after only three seasons.
Why Did Lauren Holly Leave?
Lauren Holly decided to leave NCIS on her own terms. After returning to acting, she was eager to explore other roles and felt restless playing Jenny Shepard. The decision to write her character out of the show was mutual, and Holly wasn’t upset about the outcome.
What Happened to Jenny Shepard?
Jenny’s shocking and ultimate exit came in the Season 5 finale, when she was murd3red off. Her plot resulted in a firefight at an abandoned diner, which stemmed from her desire to avenge her father’s death. This vendetta began in Season 4 when Jenny chased Rene Benoit, whom she considered responsible.
During her pursuit, Jenny failed to k1ll a Russian arms dealer’s fiancée, setting the stage for the violent showdown that ultimately led to her death.
Even if she had survived the shootout, her days were numbered. Jenny’s autopsy showed a deadly condition, which she had kept hidden. Jenny eventually ensured her death occurred on her terms, however it was a terrible and unforgettable occasion for admirers.
