José de la Torre, best known for his role as Iván in Netflix’s Toy Boy, has tragically passed away at 37. The Spanish actor died on Thursday, December 5, just months after revealing he was battling a serious, undisclosed illness.
Montilla Digital broke the news first, reporting that his funeral took place on Friday, December 6, in the Parish of San Francisco Solano in his homeland of Montilla, Spain.
De la Torre announced his diagnosis in June, stepping back from the spotlight to focus on treatment. Despite his optimistic social media posts, his condition worsened, and his cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
Tributes flooded in after the announcement. Pablo Alborán, a Spanish singer, wrote, “I can’t believe you left so soon. “I am devastated.” Actress Luisa Martín and singer Lolita Flores sent poignant condolences, with Flores speaking at his memorial.
De la Torre’s last Instagram post on June 3 captured a moment of joy from a festival in the Canary Islands, celebrating life with friends.
The actor rose to fame in Toy Boy, a thriller about a stripper fighting to prove his innocence, which ran from 2019 to 2021. Before that, he debuted in the police drama Serve and Protect in 2017 and appeared in Vis a Vis: El Oasis and Amar es para siempre in 2020.
His sister Marina, as well as his parents, Antonio de la Torre Hidalgo and Maria Jose Delgado Espejo, survive him.
