John Mayall, the Godfather of British Blues, Passes Away at 90 After Battling Health Issues

John Mayall, the legendary “Godfather of British Blues,” has passed away at the age of 90. His family shared that Mayall died peacefully at his California home on July 22, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Health issues had forced him to end his touring career, which ultimately led to his passing.

Mayall was a pivotal figure in the British blues scene, forming the influential band John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers in the 1960s. The band featured over 70 members throughout its history, including notable musicians like Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie.

In April 2024, Mayall was honored as a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee for the Musical Influence Award, alongside blues legends Alexis Korner and Big Mama Thornton.

Mayall is survived by his six children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
