Mark Harmon is speaking out about his marital problems with his wife, Pam Dawber.
According to People, the NCIS actor and the former Mork & Mindy actress frequently disagree, including when she wanted him to turn down the role of Freddy Shoop in what would become the hit 1987 cult comedy Summer School.
“I just wanted to do it because I was excited to work with director Carl Reiner,” he said in a new interview with the magazine. “That was a game changer for me, like, ‘He thinks I can do this?!’ It meant a lot to me.” ‘Don’t do that,’ Pam said. ‘Do not make this movie.'”
“We don’t generally like the same thing,” Harmon added, insisting that having different tastes is “healthy.”
Despite their differences, Harmon, 67, decided to renew his vows with Dawber, also 67, in March 2017 after a health crisis that resulted in a secret surgery and the d3ath of a close friend and NCIS colleague.
“We were both in our thirties when we got married, so hopefully the stupid stuff we did earlier,” he explained about the secret to their 31-year marriage. “That’s probably the closest I can come to figuring out what the key is.”
Sean, 30, and Ty, 26, are the couple’s two sons.
