Actor Francisco San Martin, Known for ‘Days of Our Lives,’ Dead at 39

Francisco San Martin, well known for his role as Dario Hernandez on Days of Our Lives, has away at the age of 39. On January 16, police discovered the actor at his Los Angeles home.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office suspects he committed suicide, although the formal cause of death has yet to be determined.

San Martin appeared on the iconic soap in 2011, playing a thief who turned out to be an investigator. His character eventually moved to Argentina, with Jordi Vilasuso later taking over the role.

San Martin also had notable roles in The Bold and the Beautiful as Mateo in 2017 and as Fabian Regalo del Cielo in seasons 3 and 4 of Jane the Virgin, where his character had a short-lived romance with Gina Rodriguez’s Jane.

His acting credits include a role in Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the Candelabra, opposite Michael Douglas and Matt Damon. San Martin, who was born in Mallorca, Spain and reared in Montana, got his start in acting through children’s theater. He moved back to Spain as a teenager and tried modeling and acting before returning to the United States to further his career.

His former Days of Our Lives co-star, Camila Banus, who played his sister Gabi, paid tribute on Instagram, saying, “Pepe, I love you and rest in peace, my friend. Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more.”

San Martin leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances and a love for the craft of acting.
