Even after nearly two decades on the air, NCIS remains one of the most popular television franchises. Despite the departure of longtime NCIS figurehead Mark Harmon last year, fan demand for additional NCIS content remains as strong as ever. NCIS is so successful that it is expanding internationally with its next spinoff series, NCIS: Sydney.
Fans are eager to see the series expand internationally with this new series set in Australia. The new spinoff will not be released until 2023. But fans are already clamoring for more information on the NCIS spinoff. Outsider has compiled a list of everything we know so far about the highly anticipated NCIS: Sydney.
In February of this year, the new spinoff was announced. It was created by NCIS: Los Angeles producer Shane Brennan, an Australian native. It is the first NCIS series to take place outside of the United States, following previous versions that took the police procedural to New Orleans and Hawaii, in addition to Los Angeles and Washington, DC.
The precise release date has yet to be determined. However, CBS has confirmed that it will arrive in 2023. The other NCIS shows usually start their new seasons in September, at the start of the Fall TV season. Fans will have to wait for more information on the release date in the coming months.
What Can We Expect From NCIS: Sydney?
NCIS: Sydney will revolve around a tenacious group of Naval Cr1minal Investigative Service special agents dedicated to investigating cr1mes committed by Marines and sailors. Much like all of the show’s predecessors throughout its long history. However, this will be the first in the series to venture internationally and investigate another country’s maritime cr1mes.
Beverley McGarvey, Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President of ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand, issued an official statement expressing how excited she and her fellow Australians are to bring NCIS to their country.
“We are thrilled to welcome NCIS’s first international series to Australian shores,” McGarvey said. “It’s an honor to be able to carry on the legacy of such a wonderful show while incorporating superior NCIS storytelling and introducing new Australian characters and locations.” We can’t wait to start production.”
Filming is scheduled to begin later this year. NCIS: Sydney will be shot on location in Australia’s capital city. One of the most beautiful harbors in the world. To maintain authenticity, the new spinoff will also feature a cast of local Australian actors. The names of the main and recurring cast members have not yet been revealed.
The show will be broadcast on Network 10 in Australia. However, it will be available for streaming on Paramount+ to audiences worldwide. There is no trailer for NCIS: Sydney because production has not yet begun. But stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to a new chapter in NCIS history.
