TV Icon Ed Wheeler, Star of ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Blue Bloods’, Passes Away at 88

Ed Wheeler, a veteran character actor known for his roles in Law & Order and Presumed Innocent, passed away on Aug. 21 at the age of 88 due to respiratory failure from pneumonia complications.

His wife, actor and producer Messeret Stroman Wheeler, paid him a moving social media tribute. “Ed, you were more than a public figure; you were a guiding light, my supportive partner, and my heart,” she said. “We built a life and created art together, and your legacy will continue to inspire.”

Wheeler’s acting career began in the 1970s, and he appeared in both film and television. His notable credits include Broadcast News (1987), Presumed Innocent (1990), and Mickey Blue Eyes (1999). On TV, he featured in Watch Your Mouth, Cosby, New York Undercover, and One Life to Live. His last appearance was on Blue Bloods in 2010.

Aside from acting, Wheeler co-produced the historical short Keepers of the Flame with his wife. The National Black Theatre Festival presented him with the Living Legend Award in 2017 for his contributions to the arts.

Wheeler will be remembered for the joy he brought and the legacy he leaves behind.
