Chad McQueen, the actor best known for his role as Dutch in “The Karate Kid” films and the son of Hollywood legend Steve McQueen, has passed away at the age of 63. His family announced his death on social media, describing his life as a “remarkable journey.”
Arthur Barens, McQueen’s lawyer, confirmed that he died on Wednesday. The reason of death was not disclosed. In their homage, his family expressed thanks for his passion, knowledge, and dedication, and stated that they intend to carry on both his and his father’s legacy.
In addition to his acting career, McQueen was an avid racecar driver and founded McQueen Racing. He eventually retired from racing in the mid-2000s after suffering severe injuries. His family emphasized how racing was a way for Chad to honor his father, Steve McQueen, who was also known for his love of cars and racing.
Aside from his roles in “The Karate Kid” and its sequel, McQueen appeared in the 1993 action film Firepower and created documentaries on his father, such as I Am Steve McQueen and Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans.
Chad McQueen was the only son of Steve McQueen, who died in 1980 at the age of 50. Chad is survived by his wife, Jeanie Galbraith, and their three children: Steven, Chase, and Madison. His son Steven McQueen has continued the family tradition, gaining fame for his role in “The Vampire Diaries.”
The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
