“Blue Bloods” has offered a mix of hard-hitting action and family drama since its CBS debut in 2010, focusing on a multigenerational New York law enforcement family. Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) serves as a New York assistant district attorney, contrasting with her police officer brothers Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie (Will Estes) and their father, police chief Frank (Tom Selleck).
Erin, the Reagan family’s middle daughter, serves as a legal compass for her siblings and father, all of whom are NYPD officers. Moynahan has revealed that her character won’t be leaving anytime soon. “We realize how fortunate we are to be on this show-especially such a long-running show,” she told Glamour, expressing gratitude and dedication to the ensemble.

Bridget Moynahan and her character Erin Reagan share striking similarities. Moynahan began portraying Erin, a single mother, in her late 30s when she herself was raising a 3-year-old son with NFL legend Tom Brady. While not as stiff as her character, Moynahan noted many parallels in her Glamour interview, saying, “Growing up in an Irish Catholic family with all brothers and all boy cousins, I’ve just been surrounded by men my whole life. And being a single mom [to onscreen daughter Nicky] as well.”
This parallel between her own life and her role demonstrates life imitating art. It’s difficult to envision anybody else playing Erin Reagan, who never backs down from a confrontation or accepts being overlooked in a male-dominated business. This is demonstrated in the Season 10 episode “The First 100 Days,” in which Erin reassesses her life following a car accident, resulting in an emotional reconciliation with her ex-husband and a combative family meal at which she expresses her troubles and stress at work.
Moynahan believes she could make a fine lawyer if obtaining a degree weren’t so challenging. She has developed a greater appreciation for the law through her role as a New York assistant district attorney, the only member of the Reagan family not directly part of the NYPD.
