Brian Dietzen is best known for playing Dr. Jimmy Palmer on NCIS for the past two decades.
The popular actor recently opened up about his time on the show, recalling a fond memory of his former co-star Mark Harmon being there for him during a difficult time on set.
Brian explained to Looper that he had dislocated his shoulder but didn’t want to make a big deal about it because he was still in the early stages of his career on the show.
The celebrity stated: “I remember dislocating my shoulder once when I was younger. I hadn’t told anyone about the second season because I was a recurring guest star. I didn’t want to make a scene by saying things like, “I need time off” or “I can’t do this or that.””
He went on to say that while “it was fine,” “it would pop out every now and then.” Mark, who was unaware of Brian’s injury, placed a 40-pound sandbag in the actor’s medical examiner kit, and when he went to pick it up, he was in excruciating pain.
“After we finished the take, I went over to him and told him, ‘I actually had a dislocated shoulder,'” Brian explained.
Brian Dietzen of NCIS opened up about how Mark Harmon was there for him.
“‘Oh, God, oh no!’ he exclaimed. He was extremely gracious about it. But here’s the thing: on a set where you’re working 14, 16, 18 hours a day, you have to keep things light. You must smile and play around a little. Not that we’re having a good time the entire day, but you have to keep things light because otherwise it can get a little tedious. He’s always been very good at it. We’ve certainly continued in that spirit.”
When Mark left his role as Leroy Gibbs on NCIS in season 19 of the popular show, his fans were devastated.
The NCIS cast members are extremely close.
For a special featurette on the show’s season 19 DVD release, he opened up about his decision to leave the show almost a year after leaving.
He sat down to discuss his character’s legacy, as well as his thoughts on how the show wrapped up his storyline, and admitted that the opportunity to tackle “fresh” and “challenging” material is what kept him returning to the drama season after season, alluding to the possibility that after almost two decades on the show, he no longer felt that way.
