Blue Bloods Boss Breaks Silence With Disappointing Update on Spinoff After Emotional Finale

Blue Bloods concluded its 14-season run on CBS on Friday (December 13), with an emotional and action-packed conclusion that marked the end of the Reagan family’s story.

In the episode, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) is appointed to lead the city through a surge in gang violence, while Jamie (Will Estes) and Joe (Will Hochman) team up to track down the k1ller of Eddie Janko’s (Vanessa Ray) partner. The episode also features a tense confrontation between Frank and gang leader Lorenzo Batista (Edward James Olmos), and a heartfelt goodbye to Officer Luis Badillo (Ian Quinlan).

As the story concludes, Erin (Bridget Moynahan) agrees to remarry Jack Boyle (Peter Hermann), Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) asks Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) out, and Jamie and Eddie reveal they are expecting a child. The final scene shows the family gathering around the dinner table, led in prayer by Frank.

With most storylines wrapped up, fans are already asking about the possibility of a spin-off. But showrunner Kevin Wade has cast doubt on that idea.

Blue Bloods exists because of the family,” Wade told Deadline. “You can’t just take one of them and drop them into a new setting like ‘Blue Bloods: New Orleans.’ That was never on the table.”

He acknowledged that characters such as Steve Schirripa, Marisa Ramirez, Greg Jbara, and others have potential, but a meaningful continuation is unlikely.

Longtime cast member Abigail Hawk (Detective Baker) shared similar thoughts, saying a spin-off could happen with new characters or a new family, but not in New York due to obvious ties to the Reagans.

While the door isn’t totally closed, the Reagans’ story has officially ended for the time being. Fans will have to hold on to their memories-and hope for a reunion someday.
