After nearly 15 years on the air, the CBS police drama is coming to an end. Find out when the final episodes will air and what the network has to say about the cancellation.
Another television show has been canceled. CBS has revealed that its long-running police program Blue Bloods will conclude after 14 seasons. Continue reading to learn more about the last episodes and the show’s cancellation.
Why Did CBS Cancel ‘Blue Bloods’?
CBS, like several other canceled TV shows (iCarly, Young Sheldon, and others), did not give a rationale for canceling Blue Bloods.
Many fans, however, believe that the influence of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes is one of the causes behind this.
The strikes forced studios to halt production, but Blue Bloods maintained good viewership, CBS executives stated in a statement.
Blue Bloods will be remembered fondly by CBS executives Amy Reisenbach and David Stapf in a joint statement.
Since its debut, it has governed Friday nights with unmatched supremacy, establishing itself as a pillar of our winning lineup with an extraordinarily committed fan base.
According to Variety, series star Tom Selleck also acknowledged the cancellation of his show in a statement: It has been an honor and a joy to work on a performance for the past 13 years that not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also emphasizes the value of family.
Working with these amazing actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew has been a dream come true for me, and I’m grateful to have been a part of this wonderful group for over 275 episodes.
Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for your unwavering support, and we are grateful to the fans that joined us for supper every Friday night.
Previously, many publications reported that the Blue Bloods actors took a 25% salary cut to keep the show on the air.
The majority of them consented to a pay cut in order to renew the show for a 14th season. Deadline reported at the time that CBS was requesting “significant budget cuts.”
Before the program was renewed for its final season, series star Donnie Wahlberg told PEOPLE how he thought people would respond if Blue Bloods wasn’t renewed for another season.
“I love Blue Bloods, and I think if there weren’t a season 14, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very outraged,” he said. “They’re a member of the Reagan clan.” The extended family is the audience.
I believe [the audience] would be mortified if the show ended without a decent sendoff. So, I believe [we’ll] have at least one more season.”
When Will the Final ‘Blue Bloods’ Episodes Air?
Viewers will be treated to a two-part season featuring a total of 18 episodes. The first ten episodes will air on February 16, 2024, while the remaining episodes will air in the fall of 2024.
