After 14 seasons, CBS’s Blue Bloods is set to conclude, with showrunner Kevin Wade sharing insights into crafting the series finale. Inspired by iconic TV finales like MASH*, Cheers, and The Sopranos, Wade aimed to balance a classic episode with a subtle nod to its finality.
Since 2010, the Reagan family, led by Commissioner Frank (Tom Selleck), has been solving cr1mes and dealing with personal issues. Along with Selleck, the show features Donnie Wahlberg (Detective Danny Reagan), Bridget Moynahan (ADA Erin Reagan), and Will Estes (Sergeant Jamie Reagan).
The decision to end the show sparked fan uproar, but Wade had long considered how to wrap things up. He emphasized avoiding self-congratulatory moments, instead focusing on delivering a strong episode. “People tune in to see a show they love, not a retrospective,” he explained.
The conclusion will include a unifying case that reflects the series’ most successful episodes. “We have four different stories, but all are aimed at solving or preventing the same cr1mes,” Wade told reporters.
The final eight episodes premiere this October, with the series finale airing in December. Fans will bid farewell to the Reagans after over a decade of heartfelt storytelling and compelling drama.
