Rocky Carroll, Mark Harmon’s NCIS co-star, believes the beloved character will return at least “one more time.”
Since his final appearance at the end of Season 19, fans of Mark Harmon’s NCIS character, Leroy Gibbs, have been waiting to see if the show’s writers will find a way to bring him back into the storyline, even if only for a cameo appearance.
Following reports that the series would bring the iconic character back for the show’s 450th episode, with no sighting of the cherished character anywhere, fans are wondering if they’ll ever see the special agent again.
According to Movieguide, there is a good probability that Harmon will resume his role, as NCIS creator Steven D. Binder appears d3ad set on his comeback, with co-star Rocky Carroll indicating that Gibbs will return.
Carroll, who co-starred as Leon Vance on NCIS with Mark Harmon, added that because Gibbs is so well-liked by the other characters, he has no doubt that the agent will be seen again.
“I think as long as this show stays on the air, there will always be a little bit of a tease that we might see Gibbs again,” Carroll told reporters. Carroll continued, “I don’t see how we don’t see him one more time at some point.”
Binder, echoing Carroll’s thoughts, is determined to get Mark Harmon back into the drama of NCIS. But he wants to be certain that everything is done correctly.
Fans of the long-running CBS series will recall that the character, who appeared on the project for a staggering 19 years, left in the most pleasant way possible: enjoying a tranquil and serene life in Anchorage, Alaska following the conclusion of a difficult case.
Noting that the character is merely chilling on a “higher plane of existence” and that the audience last saw him “smiling on a river happy,” Binder wants to ensure that the team finds the appropriate cause to bring Gibbs back into the plot.
Binder indicates that Mark Harmon’s reappearance as NCIS’ ex-protagonist might be for either good or terrible reasons. Binder disclosed in his statement that for the time being, the objective is to either “truly embrace” Gibbs’ new low-stress lifestyle or “blow that out of the water.”
NCIS and its spin-offs have had a busy year, with characters from the Hawaii, Washington, and Los Angeles branches all teaming up for a major crossover event in early January.
The cast and crew of the original series are sure to break out the champagne and salute to 20 years of solving cases and increasing viewership figures for The Big Bang Theory’s home network.
While fans were disappointed to see Mark Harmon leave his seat just before the show’s 20th anniversary, they can still see his own vision for NCIS as the actor has taken on a more behind-the-scenes role as an executive producer.
The big disclosure made not just by Mark Harmon’s co-star, but also by the NCIS showrunner, is a step in the right direction for fans eager to see Leroy Gibbs return.
And, while we’re glad the dedicated agent is enjoying his retirement life in the lovely and serene state of Alaska, we’d want to see him return in the future – if only for one more case.
