“I was surprised but so honored that fans connected so deeply with Linda,” Amy told Deadline in 2017. “It touches my heart how much she meant to so many people. I had no idea. I still receive so many sweet messages from fans wishing me well and expressing their love for the character.”

Why Did Amy Carlson Leave Blue Bloods?

According to showrunner Kevin Wade, Amy decided not to renew her contract, leaving the writers with little choice but to write Linda off.

“We were in a difficult situation because her decision came after the previous season had ended,” Wade told TV Line in 2018. “We did our best in a difficult situation.”

Amy later clarified in an interview with Deadline that conversations about contract renewals are standard and happen before shooting begins, suggesting her departure shouldn’t have been a surprise to the production team.

However, she confessed that she was surprised by how Linda’s character was written. “I feel bad about how she died,” she admitted. “I had no idea they’d handle it like that. “I would not have done that.”
