Linda Reagan, an emergency room nurse, perished offscreen in a helicopter crash while airlifting a patient. Her death was disclosed during a chat between Danny, played by Donnie Wahlberg, and his therapist, who informed him that Linda’s death was not his fault. She died doing what she loved.”
In the Season 8 conclusion, Danny went to Linda’s grave. Later, in Season 9, it was discovered that her death was not accidental. Jose Rojas, played by Danny Trejo, ordered the cartel to k1ll her. This twist added to the tragedy and gave Danny fresh resolve to seek justice.
Fans Were Shocked By Linda’s Death
Linda’s sudden death devastated fans, and Amy Carlson was moved by their emotional reactions.
“I was surprised but so honored that fans connected so deeply with Linda,” Amy told Deadline in 2017. “It touches my heart how much she meant to so many people. I had no idea. I still receive so many sweet messages from fans wishing me well and expressing their love for the character.”
Why Did Amy Carlson Leave Blue Bloods?
According to showrunner Kevin Wade, Amy decided not to renew her contract, leaving the writers with little choice but to write Linda off.
“We were in a difficult situation because her decision came after the previous season had ended,” Wade told TV Line in 2018. “We did our best in a difficult situation.”
Amy later clarified in an interview with Deadline that conversations about contract renewals are standard and happen before shooting begins, suggesting her departure shouldn’t have been a surprise to the production team.
However, she confessed that she was surprised by how Linda’s character was written. “I feel bad about how she died,” she admitted. “I had no idea they’d handle it like that. “I would not have done that.”
Despite the controversy surrounding her exit, Amy remains grateful for the fan support and the impact of her character on the show.
