After Fans Questioned Callen’s Mysterious Absence, an NCIS LA Promo Hints at a Deadly Exit

NCIS: Los Angeles returns to CBS next Sunday, and a new trailer for the episode teases that it will be anything but lighthearted for series regular G Callen.

G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) was noticeably absent from the latest episode of NCIS LA, in which Sam (LL Cool J) and Rountree (Caleb Castille) went all out to try to stop a drug-dealing gang on the streets of Los Angeles. However, Callen will return in season 14, episode 16, titled Sleeping Dogs, but a flashback from his past will ensure that his return will not be a pleasant one.

The promo confirms that Callen will make his return while being held hostage.

And it appears that it will be under the command of someone with a long history with the agent: Pembroke.

Due to flashbacks and a rather heated confrontation in season 13, Callen knows his old adversary is now known as Arnold Baines. (Jere Burns).

The rivalry between Young Baines (Andrei Dolezal) and Callen dates back to their adolescence, and the NCIS LA agent has been hellbent on vengeance since Katya (Sacha Clements) also held him hostage last season.

So, in the new trailer, Sam is surprised to learn that Pembroke is still active and on Callen’s tail.

When Fatima (Medalion Rahimi) raises an alarm, he joins Fatima and Rountree at a computer.

“What exactly is it?” Sam asks hurriedly as he rushes to see what Fatima has discovered.

“Pembroke’s files,” Fatima says, rummaging through a stack of documents and photographs of people of interest.

“He’s still in the game,” Sam thinks to himself as he reaches for his phone.

“Put me through to Callen!” Sam orders down the line.

However, as fans hear Callen’s phone ring, it quickly becomes clear that it is not in his possession.

In fact, as the camera pans to show an unknown character rejecting the call, it reveals Callen is being held at gunpoint.

The gunman is aiming directly at Callen’s head, so any movement toward the phone will undoubtedly result in the agent’s d3ath.

But is it Pembroke who is holding the phone and Callen hostage, or is it someone else?

Could it be that another enemy is on hand to wreck havoc on Callen and the rest of the OSP?

The promo doesn’t reveal much more, but CBS has released a synopsis for the episode to tease what’s to come.

“When the NCIS team receives a cryptic, urgent message, Fatima and Rountree must collaborate to solve the case,” it says.

“Kilbride (Gerald McRaney) is also planning a visit to his son, and Callen asks Sam to be his best man.”

But will Callen ask Sam the big question before or after his life is threatened?
