CBS announced in 31 March that there will be a season 20 of NCIS — but there are still unanswered questions.
For the purposes of this article, we should note that many of these questions revolve around none other than Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Is Mark Harmon’s time on the show truly over? Is there still a chance he’ll return..?
CBS announced the renewal on Twitter, along with a slew of fun behind-the-scenes photos of the cast. Yet there is no mention of Harmon — Ducky is even depicted, which we haven’t seen on-screen in a long time! This could be a sign that Gibbs is truly gone, as if it wasn’t already obvious. It’s also no coincidence that the official accounts mention “Parker and the team,” reminding us that this is now, more than ever, Gary Cole’s show.
However, we know that Harmon is still featured in the opening credits as of now — this could be due to contractual reasons more than anything else. Is it still possible that we’ll see him before the end of the season? Sure, but we all know that this is no guarantee that he’ll be back for more episodes in the future. Harmon simply appears to be ready to move on, and after nearly 20 years on the job, it’s difficult to blame him. That’s just something that some actors experience over time.
Do you want to see Mark Harmon reprise his role as Gibbs in NCIS season 20..?
