Donnie Wahlberg, the ultimate Blue Bloods fan and veteran Danny Reagan actor, is leading the push for the franchise’s future. He will reprise his role in Boston Bloods, a new spinoff that will premiere on CBS during the 2025-26 season.
Though CBS has kept details under wraps, Wahlberg gave fans more insight via Instagram, promising “surprises,” answers to lingering questions from the Blue Bloods finale, and a continuation of the Reagan family legacy. “So excited to carry on the tradition… to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to Boston Bloods!” he wrote.
Boston Bloods, unlike other spinoffs, will be a legitimate continuation of the series. CBS took its time developing the correct strategy, and transferring Danny to Boston was a critical step.
One storyline fans are eager for answers on: Danny’s relationship with his partner, Maria Baez. Their bond deepened in the final season, and Wahlberg confirmed he pushed for more clarity. “They don’t need to get married,” he told Variety, “but something to show that there may be a future for them.”
With Danny now in a new location and Baez unlikely to have followed, romantic closure may be out of the question-but Wahlberg indicates that answers are on the way.
The Reagan story isn’t over yet — it’s just moving north.
