NCIS: Los Angeles is in its 14th season, and there are a few storylines that need to be wrapped up and things we’d like to see before it concludes on May 14.
According to showrunner R. Scott Gemmill, “we look forward to delivering an end to the series that is both satisfying and does justice to these beloved characters,” so we believe the CBS procedural will deliver on at least some fronts.
But will it have time to wrap up the ongoing storylines involving MIA Hetty (Linda Hunt), Kessler’s (Frank Military) threat to Kensi (Daniela Ruah), the body stitchers case, and all the answers about Callen’s (Chris O’Donnell) past, feature a couple of character-specific named episodes, and more? Scroll down to see what we’d like to see in the remaining episodes of the NCIS spinoff, as well as other ideas.
Hetty
The good news is that Hetty is still alive, thanks to an audio message played during the NCISverse crossover. The bad news is that we haven’t heard much about her mission in Syria in quite some time. It appears inevitable that the team will travel overseas to assist her at some point, but we just hope that there is enough time to give that the justice it deserves — and that we get as much Hunt as we can in the process. And let’s hope we get one more scene of Hetty at her office desk before the end.
Kessler has been taken care of for good.
The sociopath who has repeatedly and disturbingly threatened Kensi’s life is still out there, and while we don’t want him to come near her, Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen), or Rosa (Natalia del Riego), it feels like it has to happen. Plus, Ruah and Military had such a good fight in Season 12’s “Raising the D3ad” that we’d like to see it again.
The Body Stitchers Case Has Been Closed
The case, which was first introduced in Season 9’s “The Monster,” involves a network of serial k1llers who chop up bodies and sew the parts back together in a twisted Frankenstein — and then display them. In Season 14’s update, “The Body Stitchers,” the team realized too late that FBI Forensic Psychologist Mark Collins (JD Cullum) is actually “Vincent,” the “Master” of the network. Last we saw, his plan was for the network to “go dark for an extended period of time,” but when they returned, they would “stop making conventional bodies.” Could this be a case that they never solve? We sincerely hope not.
Wedding of Callen and Anna
What better way to end the series than with Callen, who began it with so many unanswered questions about himself (like his first name), marrying? It would be the ideal celebration to bring everyone together (including some familiar guests), allow him to have received the answers he sought (more on that later), and give them enough time to first bring back Hetty because she needs to be present.
Episodes “Hanna, S.” and “Deeks, M.”
Over the years, we’ve had “Callen, G.,” “Lange, H.,” “Blye, K.,” and “Granger, O.” episodes. This season appears to have been laying the groundwork for a “Deeks, M.” episode, and it had to be inevitable that we’d also get a “Hanna, S.” episode. There have been several episodes focusing on both Sam (LL Cool J) and Deeks, but it’s not the same.
Eric and Nell Reappear
Barrett Foa and Renée Felice Smith both left at the end of Season 12, leaving Eric and Nell to work at his tech firm’s Tokyo branch. It may be too much to expect them to return in some capacity (perhaps to attend Callen and Anna’s wedding?) but also work with the team to get them back into Ops, but hey, let’s dream big.
Kilbride’s Son
Kilbride’s (Gerald McRaney) estranged son has previously been mentioned, particularly in discussions about parenting with Deeks, and now his ex-wife, played by Marilu Henner, appears. She’ll be attempting to re-unite Kilbride and his son, and while it’s entirely possible that she’ll leave with the promise of this happening someday — but his son not being quite ready — we hope to see it onscreen.
Callen’s Responses
When they reunite, Callen has a lot of questions for Hetty, including about the program he was a part of as a kid. And as part of that, he must find Pembroke, who is clearly still haunting him (as seen earlier this season). We just hope he gets what he needs before his wedding (and no, we don’t mean during the celebration in the first half of the episode).
A Vision of the Team’s Future
Over the years, there has been speculation about who might take over as Hetty’s operations manager; Kilbride has since taken over as OSP’s leader. But is it possible that Callen will one day take on that role? Could we learn more about the young agents Sam aspires to be like? Will Kensi and Deeks discuss continuing in their dangerous line of work now that they have children? (They debated whether or not to tell Rosa about him being shot at in the crossover.) Will the series conclude with the team still working together and only a glimmer of what the future may hold, or will at least one or two of them move on to something new?
