Some Fans of Blue Bloods Are Happy To See This Character Less on the Show

TV shows about law enforcement are plentiful. For decades, audiences have been fascinated with the life of the badge, from long-running staples like “NYPD Blue” and “Law & Order” to gritty, suspense-filled shows like “The Shield” and “Southland.”

While many of these shows may appear to be too similar in style and story, their casts set them apart.

“Blue Bloods,” a New York-based police drama, is no exception. The combination of beat cop storylines in the vein of “Southland,” the detective whodunit angle of “NYPD Blue,” the court proceedings of “Law & Order,” and a somewhat more original political angle all in one family distinguishes this show.

“Blue Bloods” follows the Reagans, a military family comprised of Henry, the patriarch and former police commissioner played by Len Cariou, Frank, Henry’s son and current police commissioner played by Tom Selleck, and their three children.

As the family navigates law enforcement in New York City, Donnie Wahlberg plays Danny the detective, Bridget Moynahan plays Erin the prosecutor, and Will Estes plays Jamie the beat cop.

While the characters are the series’ lifeblood, not all of them are “Blue Bloods” fan favorites, and one of the show’s departures has pleased some fans.

Fans are relieved to see less of Nikki.

The Reagan family’s Sunday dinner is a “Blue Bloods” staple, providing an opportunity to support and debate each character’s ethical and moral quandaries as they discuss the week’s events.

Nikki Reagan (Sami Gayle), the daughter of New York Assistant District Attorney Erin Reagan, stood out from the rest of the cast on a regular basis. She is the “voice of the people” in a family of cops, challenging the status quo.

While the real world is more aware of this, her use of conflict in conversations feels out of place at times.

Because the character has matured over the seasons and moved on to college, the series has drastically reduced her screen time, which fans on Reddit have welcomed.

“I can’t stand it when she gives her that ‘I’m surprised by what you’re saying/doing’ look…””With her mouth open and looking…not smart,” commented Reddit user Sum_101. “Thank you, God!” She was the devil!” CJaneNorman, another user, agreed.

While the cast of “Blue Bloods” has changed over the course of the show’s 12 seasons, each change ushers in a new chapter. This new chapter appears to be bringing some fans joy as they bid farewell to Nikki Reagan.

  1. First of all, Nikki is young and you expect her to take a somewhat more naive approach when commenting on certain issues. Second, her character is an attempt to appeal to progressives and those not on the Right, especially the Far Right….the Silent Majority. There are many in this country, including me who are fed up with anyone who tolerates a different opinion as being “woke.” I am sick of the word!!! It is a racist, homophobic, pseudo Christian term that is used to criticize anything that is not part of the Far Right. It is a word that if it had been around in their time, Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin would have used it routinely. So with the character of Nikki, Blue Blood was attempting to show there is more than one way to resolve a problem and that “our way or the highway” mentality is just the opposite of the principles that has made this country stand out among a world of nations.

  2. I liked nikki as well Eddie is a bit overwhelming I’m sure people don’t act like that. But it’s the writers but I’ve watched blue bloods from the very beginning love it
