NCIS LA: Will Eric Christian Olsen be missing from the rest of NCIS Los Angeles season 12?

NCIS LOS ANGELES fans were left in shock as Marty Deeks had to say goodbye to the team at the weekend. But does this mean actor Eric Christian Olsen won’t star in the rest of the season?

NCIS Los Angeles started airing its 12th season last month and already there have been some adjustments. Hetty Lange (played by Linda Hunt) is on a secret mission at an undisclosed location and has allocated Nell Jones (Renée Felice Smith) to take her place as Operations Manager. So while in series 11 Nell was considering resigning from NCIS, now she is in charge, leading the agents in their investigations. While it is good to see Nell return, another fan-favourite was seen making their exit from the team.

Will Eric Christian Olsen be missing from the rest of NCIS Los Angeles season 12?

NCIS Los Angeles fans had to live without the CBS drama for a week due to it being the Thanksgiving weekend.

But it wasn’t all bad as on Sunday, December 6, as there were two new episodes shown back-to-back entitled Cash Flow and Raising the Dead.

Since returning, the agents have discussed there could be trouble ahead for LAPD and NCIS liaison officer Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen).

This was down to the police reforms which have been happening in America in real life and as a result, Deeks had to leave.

In the sixth episode Raising the Dead, Deeks’ job as the liaison officer was terminated.

This meant he could no longer work with NCIS and so had to say farewell to the agents, including wife Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah).

Now fans are questioning if this means Deeks will no longer be seen in the rest of season 12.

In season 11, Nell was missing from the last few episodes as she felt unsure about her future at NCIS.

In reality though, actress Smith temporarily left so she could work on an “outside project”.

The same thing happened with actor Barrett Foa who was absent from a lot of series 11 as he went off to star in Broadway play Angels.

NCIS LA explained his character Eric Beale’s disappearance by saying he had been sent on a secret mission by Hetty.

So will it be the same story for Olsen as he no longer has a job working alongside NCIS?

Fortunately for fans, it doesn’t look like this is going to be the case for Deeks.

The next episode If The Fates Allow will air on Sunday, December 13, on CBS.

The synopsis for the instalment reads: “Before Christmas, Hetty assigns Callen the case of his former foster brother and his wife who, upon reentry into the US, are framed for smuggling drugs across the border in her oxygen tanks. “Deeks is struggling with losing his job at NCIS.”

The fact Deeks is mentioned in the episode’s description shows he will be present in the rest of the series, unlike his colleagues who took time out from the drama.

Co-star Ruah has also stated Olsen will not be making his permanent exit from the show any time soon.

Ruah said: “Listen, if Eric were leaving the show permanently, we would know about that by now, and that’s obviously not the case.

“So, somewhere and somehow, things happen that change the course of where the story is going.”

Thankfully, this won’t be the end for Deeks but what will he do now after losing his job as the liaison officer?

Could it finally be time for him to join his wife and become an official agent?
