At the start of Season 19, Mark Harmon’s character left the CBS show.

NCIS fans, it’s almost time to return to Washington D.C. to solve a new batch of cases and answer some lingering questions. Meanwhile, Wilmer Valderrama is providing fans with much-needed information about the new season 20 episodes.

On July 14, the actor shared behind-the-scenes video of the NCIS cast preparing to begin filming. Wilmer is joined in the minute-long Instagram video by fellow CBS stars Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, and Katrina Law. Though the procedural drama’s stars were shouting over each other, the 70s Show alum perfectly summarized the group’s message.

“NCIS returns for Season 20!” Wilmer stated in the excerpt. “We’ve returned to the set. We’re overjoyed… You have been forewarned. We want to do things you’ve never seen before on NCIS, and we’re going to surprise you along the way… Prepare yourself. September 19th, see you there.”

Fans reacted positively after seeing the NCIS cast reunite and share a sneak peek of what’s to come in the comments section.

“Oh my god, very very good news, so excited, love it,” one user commented. “Yes!! I’m overjoyed! Everyone, have fun filming! I’m looking forward to Season 20! “, another person added. “I’m glad it didn’t end with Mark leaving,” another fan commented.

However, the sentiment was not shared by the entire NCIS fandom. Unsurprisingly, only one name came to mind: Gibbs. As viewers are aware, actor Mark Harmon left the show at the start of Season 19 last fall. While there had been rumors about him leaving, many fans hoped he would continue to appear as a guest star throughout the series. But this did not occur.

Fans, however, have not given up hope. “Is Gibbs coming back?” a fan wondered. “Can’t wait, but is Gibbs there as well?” Someone else spoke up. “Gibbs I hope will be on some!” said another.

Showrunner/executive producer Steven D. Binder hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Gibbs returning since his character was last seen happily fishing in a river. In an interview with TV Insider, he revealed details about the process.

“There’s always head room for him to return. “I think it just has to be the right story to get him excited about it and us excited about it,” he told the outlet. “It’s a playable card, and I don’t think we want to play it cheaply.” I believe that when we do play it, we must do the right thing.”

Until then, we’ll just keep an eye on the rest of the NCIS cast’s Instagram accounts for more behind-the-scenes photos to tide us over. Who knows, we might just catch a glimpse of Mark/Gibbs in the background.
