During his time on the NCIS team, Mark Harmon’s Leroy Gibbs provided a fatherly presence for his agents, which was most likely due to his fatherhood of one child, a little girl named Kelly.

Unfortunately, his time with her was limited. And his character’s stoic yet loving personality throughout the series was shaped by his loss of her.

Gibbs married four times on the show. However, it was clear that his first wife, Shannon Fielding, was his true love.

The lead agent met her while serving in the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant.

Shannon lived near one of his posts, and despite the fact that he eventually left, he and his future bride romanced long distance. Throughout the series, Gibbs revealed that she was the inspiration for his famous rules.

In December 1981, the couple married. A year later, they had their one and only child, Kelly.

Kelly and Gibbs’ relationship was first seen by fans in the 2007 episode Requiem. A Marine sergeant stalked one of Kelly’s now-grown friends in the plot. And she seeks assistance from Gibbs and the team.

As Gibbs works to help the woman, the show shows flashbacks to Kelly’s life, eventually revealing how she d1ed.

While fighting in Desert Storm, the ‘NCIS’ agent lost his family.

Kelly was a hobby equestrian and pianist, as we discovered throughout the story. She also enjoyed spending time with her parents. She also assisted her father in the construction of her name-brand boat.

However, Shannon and Kelly were both targeted by a Mexican drug cartel kingpin named Pedro Hernandez in 1991 after Shannon witnessed him murd3ring a marine.

Shannon and Kelly were placed under the protection of NCIS Special Agent Kurt Mitchell. Shannon agreed to testify against Hernandez because he felt safe doing so.

But the drug lord refused to accept life in prison. So, while driving Gibbs’ wife and daughter, he shot Mitchell in the head. The agent then lost control of the vehicle, and everyone inside d1ed instantly as a result of the collision.

When Leroy Gibbs learned that his family had d1ed, he was on tour in Desert Storm.

Gibbs was never able to fully rebuild his life after his tragic loss. While he excelled at work and had close relationships with his coworkers, he struggled to find happiness in his personal life.

That is what ultimately led to his decision to remain in Alaska for his final appearance on NCIS.

As he explained to the agents, the Last Frontier provided him with the peace he had been seeking since the d3ath of his family. And he planned to spend the rest of his days savoring that sensation.
