A wild elephant went into a Sri Lankan fancy hotel and gently wandered around while poking stuff with his trunk, he is aware that it’s in an upscale spot and is trying to be on its best behavior:
The family that owns the hotel (Jetwing Yala) said the Elephant is Natta Kota and is a regular since 2013. He comes and goes in peace, takes naps and “steals” food from the kitchens. He’s free and gentle and well loved by the staff.
People in Sri Lanka love elephants & yes you’ll see them all over, they’re super common on roads/ temples/towns/other places. They are culturally important & people feel strongly that elephants (all animals) be loved/well cared for.
