Last season, beloved star Mark Harmon announced his departure from NCIS after nearly 20 years on the show.

The actor left the show in the fourth episode of season 19, and his absence was felt not only by viewers, but also by his co-stars.

Brian Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer in the show, recently discussed Mark’s departure with Looper, as well as what he thought of him as a colleague.

“On a personal note, I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Mark and call him a friend for so many years. I feel the same way about everyone I’ve worked with there. For the past 20 years, it has been a wonderful, wonderful place.

“As people come and go from our set, it feels like you’re constantly meeting new family members and making new friends,” he said. He described Mark’s absence from the show as a “massive change.”

“This entire television show has been built on the shoulders, efforts, and labor of people like Mark Harmon, Cote de Pablo, Michael Weatherly, and Pauley Perrette.

There are many people who have contributed to this entity, who have served their time, or however you want to put it. They’ve been family members for 19 years, and Mark has unquestionably been the patriarch of this family,” he said.

“You feel that loss immediately on an energy level, but also on a personal level on a day-to-day basis.” Meanwhile, Brian, who has been on the show for 20 years, is seeing a significant change in his character this season. Jimmy’s romantic life has been a major plot point.

Jimmy and Jessica (Katrina Law) began their time on the show as best friends, but sparks began to fly when they admitted their feelings for one another in the season 19 finale.

Jimmy recently discussed his character’s relationship with Jessica with Looper ahead of the season 20 premiere.
